H1 Unlimited Release:  Over the course of the 2015 H1 Unlimited Hydroplane season, Jimmy Shane in the Oberto and J Michael Kelly in the Graham Trucking have put on a show that few boat racing fans will forget.On Sunday, the two drivers didn’t disappoint the fans along the Detroit River shoreline. Shane held off Kelly this time to win the UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit Hydrofest in a battle that is becoming commonplace.“Growing up I heard about rivalries like (Bill) Muncey and (Dean) Chenoweth, now we have Kelly and Shane and I think we can expect more races like we had today,” said Shane. “

Seafair: Competitive Final/Unfortunate Penalty

Overall, it was a good weekend in Seattle for the Oberto sponsored Miss Madison crew, driver Jimmy Shane and sponsor, Art Oberto, coming out of Seafair with the lead in H1 season high points.Prior to qualifying on Friday, Art Oberto had his first ride in an unlimited hydroplane when David Williams took him out in the 1975 vintage Oh Boy! Seafair 2015

Seafair 2015 activities are in full swing on Lake Washington in Seattle. Friday highlights included qualifying and a first for long time unlimited hydroplane and Miss Madison sponsor, Art Oberto.  After 40 years of sponsorship and support for the unlimited, the 88 year old Art "Oh Boy" Oberto went for his first ride.  The Hydroplane & Raceboat Museum's David Williams took Art for a ride in the vintage Oh Boy! Madison Regatta Overcomes the River

The water level of the Ohio River was high for Madison Regatta weekend canceling race activities for Friday.  A modified schedule was adapted for the weekend with Grand Prix West racing on Saturday.  On Sunday, the water was still high and the debris in the water made it impossible for a full race schedule for the unlimiteds.  An exhibition was held with 5 of the teams participating in 2 rounds of heat racing and a final.  The U-5 finished first in the final followed by the U-1 Oberto and the U-7.

Final Season with Oberto

The 2015 season will be the last for the Miss Madison to carry the Oberto name.  The Oberto company has decided to go in a different direction with their marketing and advertising.  This season, Art Oberto will continue the sponsorship in a farewell tour.
