Oberto Maintains Season Points Lead

San Diego’s Bayfair H1 Unlimited hydroplane race is known for producing unusual winners and this year’s race relied on a video review and 45 minutes following the completion of the final heat to determine the outcome. Jimmy Shane, in the City of Madison, Indiana’s Oberto hydroplane grabbed lane 1 and led the final heat on the water, start to finish.  Shane was penalized for a lane infraction and “bearing out” on J. Jimmy Shane and the Oberto Racing Hydroplane gathered third-highest points at this weekend’s Albert Lee Appliance Cup at Seattle’s Seafair and maintained the season’s high-points lead by 973 points over closest competitor J. Michael Kelly in the Graham Trucking. Shane’s 1350 points were a combination of becoming the fastest Qualifier (156.243 MPH) along with good and bad “racing luck” on the course. Heat 1B @ Seafair

Saturday at Seafair included morning testing and the first round of racing heats for the H1 hydroplanes.  In Heat 1B, Dave Villwock in the U37 Beacon Plumbing collided with the U6 Oberto Beef Jerky sponsored hydroplane owned by the City of Madison prior to the start.  Jimmy Shane was able to drive the injured U6 to a 3rd place finish in the heat.  The Oberto crew began the repairs on the boat as soon as it touched the trailer to be prepared for 2 more rounds of preliminary heats and the winner take all final for the Albert Lee Appliance Seafair Cup on Sunday.

The Oberto Racing hydroplane, driven by Jimmy Shane and owned by the citizens of Madison, Indiana holds the fastest Qualifying speed (156.243 mph) at today’s Seattle Seafair event on Lake Washington. Shane’s speed earns the team another 100 points toward the National Championship and extends the Oberto team’s qualifying streak to four consecutive races in 2014. Race Day in Tri-Cities

Jimmy Shane piloted the Oberto Beef Jerky sponsored U6 hydroplane owned by the Citizens of Madison to the top qualifying spot for the 2014 Hapo Columbia Cup at Tri-Cities Water Follies with a speed of 163.247 mph.Heat 1A on Saturday was a battle of fast boats with the U1 coming across the line first followed by the U6 Oberto and U37 Beacon Plumbing.  Racing action will continue on Sunday with 2 additional rounds of elimination heats and the winner take all final heat.
