The 1 is Back

Two main goals were set at the beginning of the 2014 season by the Oberto Beef Jerky sponsored Miss Madison team.  To win the APBA Gold Cup race in Detroit, Michigan and reclaim the #1 signifying the H1 Unlimited Season High Points title.  The Gold Cup was won in July and as of today in Doha, Qatar, Jimmy Shane and the Oberto crew accomplished the 2nd goal.The top spot in the winner-take-all final heat of the 2014 UIM World Championship Oryx Cup was won by J. Friday Racing In Doha

The photo tells the story of the first day of racing in Doha for the Oberto Beef Jerky sponsored Miss Madison.  A little bit of a rough ride and success, too.  Jimmy Shane in the Oberto along with Jon Zimmerman in the U9  were a little early to the start of Heat 1B.  Jimmy had to settle for a 4th place finish in the heat.  The rough waters of Doha Bay caused some sponsor damage to the boat bringing out the repair supplies.Jimmy made a strong start in Heat 2B and held on to the lead to the win the heat.  At the end of Friday's racing, the H1 Season Points lead for the Oberto over the U1 G

Top Qualifier at 2014 Oryx Cup!

Jimmy Shane overcame a dislodged buoy on his first qualifying run and rough water conditions on  Doha Bay Thursday afternoon to post the top qualifying speed of 143.024 mph.  J. Michael Kelly in the U1 posted the 2nd fastest speed at 142.803 mph and Jon Zimmerman took the 3rd spot on the qualifying podium at 137.158 mph. The 2014 H1 Unlimited Series resumes November 20-22 in Doha, Qatar where 10 teams will compete for the Oryx Cup U.I.M. World Championship and decide the 2014 H1 Unlimited Season Champion. Oberto Maintains Season Points Lead

San Diego’s Bayfair H1 Unlimited hydroplane race is known for producing unusual winners and this year’s race relied on a video review and 45 minutes following the completion of the final heat to determine the outcome.
